Executive Director, Deborah Summerhayes will be speaking about the Wellbeing Framework for Schools.
The conference links to the priorities in Our Plan for NSW Public Education, in particular - Strengthening student wellbeing and development. This year the cost of the conference has been reduced to align with recent budget adjustments.
NSW school staff have experienced a range of changes (curriculum, staffing, leadership) in the last two years, following the transformative experience of teaching through Covid. Throughout this time resilience and wellbeing have been a valued focus for students, families and staff and as a sector we want to build this focus and harness school leaders’ potential to thrive and have a fulfilling, balanced, sustainable career in education.
The conference will start a focus on ourselves amongst others within the school community. Utilising the Australian educator/school research evidence base, Melinda shares the AWARE Teacher framework, exploring well ways of working while in the classroom/learning space/office. The AWARE Teacher framework (attuned, wise-minded, accomplished, restorative, engaged with others) enables us to be present to our moment-to-moment capacities and to environmental demands using sustainable, compassionate strategies.
Learning, activities and stories then move to learning about our collective wellbeing and resilience, and framing change and adversity as belonging to the collective too. Participants explore developing compassionate cultures, through building relationships and learning strategies and tips to prioritise collective wellbeing.
